Kids Bikes!

What size bike is right for my child?

The most common question we get asked - and with good reason. It's very important you get the right size - buy too big and you'll ruin their confidence, and run the risk of them injuring themselves. Buy too small, and they will be uncomfortable, and you'll be back in to buy one before you know it. The only way to guarantee the right size bike, is to get them sat on the bike. But sometimes Santa isn't available for such fittings, so the best information to bring to us is: 1. what (if anything) they ride at the moment, be it a scooter, trike, whatever, make a note of the wheel size (usually printed on the tire). 2. their inseam, which will help us greatly to pick the right bike size. And, if all else fails, you are always welcome to return the bike in exchange for one which is the correct size.

I can buy one of those bikes at a big box store/department store/on the internet for $150, why should I spend the extra on one of yours?

We see a lot of department store bikes, particularly children's ones. Some of them are safe. Some of them are properly assembled and adjusted. But almost all of them weigh as much as adult bikes, and have poor quality components that won't make cycling anywhere near as enjoyable as it should be. We sell quality bikes, with aluminum frames, manufacturers warranties and brand name parts. They are assembled and tested by qualified, experienced technicians. Put bluntly - you get what you pay for.

Do I need training wheels?

Well, hopefully you don't. But in all seriousness, if you can avoid training wheels, you and your offspring will both be happier. We prefer to start them out on 'balance bikes'

these bikes have neither chains nor pedals, but they allow kids to get used to the sensation of scooting around and balancing. The next step for them is to a regular bike, no training wheels required. Of course, we also sell bikes with training wheels, and training wheels on their own - we're not telling you what to do!

Hopefully, that covers your initial questions, please don't hesitate to ask us any others you might have. We can be reached at 604-943-5670, or info@deltabike.ca.
